(Long Island, New York—On-site) Digital Content Editor – Educational publisher is seeking to fill position for an Electronic/Digital Content Editor. The Editor will contribute to the expansion of print product into electronic/digital formats. He/she must stay abreast of industry trends and will be responsible to acquire/oversee development of new and revised titles. The Editor will also be responsible for overlooking and coordinating authors, evaluators, copyeditors, and editorial assignment for approximately twenty titles per year.

Job Responsibilities:

-Conceptualize and develop products to be delivered via various technology platforms.
-Contribute specific and goal-oriented ideas toward company’s overall digital strategy, including development of e-book, hand-held, and web-based products.
-Leverage existing print production for the creation of compelling of interactive content.
-Implement improvements to adapt to existing digital market.
-Review and approve all electronic products for functionality and content.
-Develop projects with newly signed authors and arrange for revisions of existing titles.
-Recruit new or replacement authors and negotiate contacts as needed.
-Review competitive books and stay abreast all test information.
-Recruit and oversee evaluators and copyeditors.
-Propose new books concepts/ideas.
-Act as content for publishing house.
-Guide projects thorough all phases of production, including editing, design, and formatting.
-Interact with proofreaders, artists, production managers, authors, and copy writer in reviewing galleys and page proofs and answering editorial queries.
-Work with department on catalog copy and covers.
-Hire indexers to supervise their work.


Skill Requirements

1. Strong understanding and competency with current trends in digital publishing, particularly in the educational market.
2. Computer literate with a working knowledge of HTML preferred and experience in working in print/online environment considered a plus.
