Business Development Manager

(Northeast) Prestigious publishing services company is seeking a Business Development Manager. This position reports to Chief Revenue Officer and will focus on bringing on new clients, and growing some existing accounts. Travel within the New York metro area, as well as periodic trips around the country, are required. The ideal candidate will have 5 years experience selling in the publishing or media industries, with experience in editorial and production services a plus. 


  •  Pulling prospect lists from Salesforce CRM system and selecting potential prospects for marketing campaigns
  •  Individually engaging with prospects as well as deploying targeted marketing emails using available collateral from our Marketing team
  • Collaborating with our Marketing team on messaging about services
  •   Prospect qualification, including emailing and calling potential partners to learn more about their needs
  •  Working with prospects to define and review initial workflow and project requirements
  • Participate with sales staff and management on sales calls and client visits, to learn more about how the company’s services fit into our potential client’s workflows
  • Manage a pool of existing and potential accounts
  • Assemble proposals and review pricing requests with staff
  • Handle revenue-impacting post-sales queries with key accounts


  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and CRM or database systems
  •   Solid writing and basic copyediting skills
  • An understanding of social media
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers via phone and in person in a client-focused manner
  • The ability to apply sales methodology to a territory to prioritize key accounts and opportunities
  •  Sales forecasting abilities to ensure that management is up to date and able to assist as needed with opportunities
  •  An understanding of the publishing industry and its operations is preferred.
