Director of Sales & Marketing

(NYC) The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for planning, account management and growth across all channels.  The Director of Sales and Marketing will also be directly involved in the sales activities related to national accounts and special sales as well as planning and managing all marketing and promotional activities necessary to achieve sales goals.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Create and execute an annual overall sales plan to meet the sales goals created by management.  This includes TxT, monthly and quarterly sales plans/reports and budgets.

  • Creating and executing strategic plans to establish and/or maximize relationships with national partners including Readerlink Distribution Services, Walmart, Costco, SAM’s, Buy Buy Baby, TJ Maxx, and others.

  • Create, manage and update the annual sales calendar to include all sales milestones such as sales conference dates, publishing dates, POG dates, warehouse dates, etc. and ensure that all milestones are met.

  • Liaise and support our distributor’s sales teams through motivation, partnership, goal-setting, encouragement, and leading by example.

  • Responsible for the development of all sales materials needed including catalogs, sell-sheets, tip-sheets and other sales and marketing materials that may be necessary.

  • Responsible for determining quantity of book samples needed and delivery deadlines.

  • Widening market penetration through creative solutions in existing partners and new business development strategies.

  • Driving the creation of proprietary product by providing strong, profitable opportunities and partnering with product managers to deliver exciting concepts to new and existing customers.

  • Participate in curation/acquisition meetings by representing the sales and marketing position on all proposed titles and offering ideas/feedback/advice to the Editorial Director throughout the production lifecycle.

  • Present titles from a sales standpoint at sales conference meetings for our distribution partner and any in-house meetings.

 

Requirements/Skills/Experience Include:

  • 6+ years sales experience in mass market or national specialty retail sales; 3+ years' experience in management of staff at the national account manager level or above

  • Experience in publishing and relationship with Readerlink Distribution Services REQUIRED; Accountability for $10MM+ in revenue strongly preferred

  • History of setting and achieving aggressive sales goals and creating strong sustained growth in assigned channels

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, deadline driven environment

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once, last minute requests and quick turnarounds with a positive attitude

  • A strong attention to detail and Microsoft Office proficiency

  • The ability to travel up to 50%
