(Boston, MA) Well-established academic press seeking a new Managing Editor. This role leads the company’s daily publishing and is deeply committed to bringing high-quality content to audiences across formats and platforms. Will also collaborate with a stable of expert contributors and editors across the company’s digital, magazine, and press teams to create smart, thoughtful content that makes work better. Must be skillful at writing great headlines, identifying potential new contributors, and have a solid understanding of the ways digital content is distributed and consumed.
Providing oversight for daily article lineups, managing article pitches, and maintaining editorial quality across digital platforms, including opportunities to commission articles and curate pieces from the company archive on timely topics relevant to business and management
Top-editing articles from across the editorial team and making decisions on article pitches, both from other editors and outside contributors.
Workshopping smart, thoughtful, interesting headlines, including consulting on social copy and other distribution strategies.
Working with other editors to make editorial decisions on video, audio, social media, and other formats as necessary.
Developing a view across the editorial operation to identify gaps in coverage
Acquiring and editing content with an eye toward new contributors and new content types.
Working with product, design, and other parts of the organization to improve the article template and identify other site improvements.
Experience writing and editing text articles.
Experience covering business topics and editing content from outside contributors a major plus.
Demonstrated experience working with writers or outside contributors to improve and refine their work, from line editing to structural development.
A solid understanding of digital distribution channels and the ways a digital audience engages with content on different devices.
